Software Reviews of Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Home & Student Edition

Customer Review: Just a basic user
Summary: 5 Stars

I am just a basic user. I'm new to word in general except for the few times I used it in high school. On November 5th, I bought my first ever Mac and I needed powerpoint/word for college. (On PC, I had always just used works for typing something up).

Set up was extremely easy. I'm not all that computer savvy.. especially Mac savvy so I was a little freaked out about the installation but it was unbelievably easy. I was very greatful. When I open word, the layout itself seems a lot different (harder) then the version at school but Im hoping that I can just tweak some settings or just figure it all out.

I don't know anything about excel or powerpoint so I can't review them.

I paid 149.99 for this at the Apple store. I don't mind because I needed it.. but what I do mind is that I am paying for 3 of them. I guess it would benefit people who own or plan on owning more than one Mac,, but I'm lucky to afford one. I was thinking about giving one to my friend if I can or something... I'd rather help someone out then have it just sitting here. I would have rather just been able to purchase one at a lower cost. I felt sorta suckered but its nothing I'm losing sleep over.

For the basic everyday user such as myself who needs it, I would buy it. I may not know my way around it all yet but the set up was a breeze and opening word to simply write up a paper is easy. Hopefully, once I understand and get to know the software, I will have the same feelings.

Customer Review: Just OK
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this for my iMac so my kids could make power points for school. The school's ancient systems wouldn't support keynote. It's fine, and they can use it, but it just ain't as cool as keynote. Also, the school has an older edition of office so all the bells and whistles don't work. At least they can get them done at home.

Customer Review: Not quite what I expected...
Summary: 3 Stars

I learned Microsoft Word when the '07 version came out. I really liked the "ribbon" which this version does not have. It reminds me of an old version of Word and I find it very hard to find what I'm looking for without the ribbon. Otherwise, I like the fact that it's 100% compatible with PC's.

Customer Review: More Office Bloat from Bill....
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this software sight unseen last November when it was released. I held off installing as long as I could after reading early reviews. Finally had to cave yesterday and I quickly remembered why I was so happy to move to Mac from Microsoft.

Once installed, you are greeted by a LARGE service pack doesn't install. Yeah! way to go Microsoft. Guess I'll just have to live with the security threats built into the "fully redesigned" product. But the biggest immediate complaint is that the new .docx word format can't be easily opened by those with Word prior to 2007...at least easily.....now, isn't that why we have all be beholden to the MS franchise....interoperability? Guess we are now free of that!!!!!

This is software you should use at your own risk.

Customer Review: Good Product
Summary: 4 Stars

Good product; fast; easy to navigate. Emulates in most ways the Windows product. Needs some refinement and small tweaks to match the current MS Office for Windows...but significant improvement over earlier MAC edition. Recommend to buy for Intell based MACs.
