Software Reviews of Microsoft Outlook 2007

Customer Review: Outlook 2007
Summary: 5 Stars

I used Outlook at work and missed its functionality on my home computer. THe only thing I don't like is the constant news emails that I receive from MSNBC everyday. I have tried putting the MS address into Blocked Mail so they will stop but that did not work. This is very annoying. If anyone knows how to stop these, I would appreciate a line letting me know how to do it. Otherwise, Outlook is a good, solid, hardworking email program.

Customer Review: Wish We'd Ordered Sooner
Summary: 4 Stars

We had the Microsoft Student software which doesn't include Outlook. It should! Others had said we'd like the set up of e-mail, calendar, contacts, etc. Then we got an iPod Touch 2nd generation. We found that we couldn't sync calendar, notes and other things without Outlook. So, after waiting some months we went ahead (wondering if the money would be worth it)& ordered it. We are so pleased with how it loaded and the set up. Really like seeing a calendar with so many features. I'm sure we aren't making the full use we could of all Outlook offers; if we would have a guide that shows how to use all the features. Maybe you can download one, I don't know. That's how everything comes now and miss the handheld booklets for reference. Anyway, we're happy and Amazon price was the best, couldn't believe the difference compared to in store prices. Get it, you won't be disappointed.

My husband and I both have blackberrys, so we use Outlook to sync our schedules. There are some new features to the updated version, but it is easy to pick up.

Customer Review: BEWARE-installation problems
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased a new Compaq desktop with Vista Home Premium.32 bit. I also purchased Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 for my college son and I also bought Outlook 2007, as stand alone products, not upgrade versions. The new machine had no Microsoft products other than Microsoft Works already on it. When trying to install Outlook 2007, you get a popup and choose Run the software. It asks you for the product I.D. number, and that's fine. Then it starts installation, but then stops and says: Cannot find "outlookr.ww\OLKRWW.cab" file, and asks you to identify the source for the file. Well, the CD disk for the program has that file on it, but it does not accept that as the "source." Nothing you can click on can identify a "source" for the fie. I've gone to tech forums, microsoft forums, and many people report the same problem where they cannot get the product installed. Why should a consumer have such problem buying a brand new program, when you should expect that it simply self-installs? There is no answer to be found on any of the forum sites. The Vista O.S. comes with standard Windows "Mail" and that will just have to do for now. The exact same thing happened with the attempted installation of the Home and Student 2007 software---only the installation stopped on that one and said it could not find another ".cab" file source. The only way I finally got around that --after two hours cussing and searching for answers on forums--was to download the trial version of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007, activate it, and then put the full program CD into the disk drive and installed it. I had to direct that it "convert" the trial version to the new permanent version, and it finally installed ok. The program probably found the source file it needed from the trial version. But, there is no trial version of Outlook 2007 to download. So, I'm stuck with a new program CD that won't install. I rated it a one star, because that was the lowest I could give it--I would have liked to rate it with zero. At least, Microsoft should provide some instructions with the software on how to get around the problem instead of leaving its consumers with nothing but frustration. It's no wonder people love their Macs.

Update-10/14/09: After reviewing Amazon's policy on returning opened software where they will refund only 50% of the purchase price, I decided it wasn't worth the trouble. Instead, I tried installing the Outlook 2007 full program (not an upgrade version)on my Windows XP laptop that already was running Outlook 2003. The program installed without a hitch. You get to choose the type of installation, such as "Upgrade existing version" or "install as new separate version". I chose to upgrade my existing version and it automatically imported my existing emails that hadn't been deleted, and all my addresses. Apparently, the stand alone product needs to have an existing program to work off of, but that should not be the case since it is not an "upgrade" only version. I don't know what would have happened had I chosen to install it as a separate running program. Problem now is that supposedly Microsoft only allows one installation for the program CD, so if I ever find a cure for the problem initially reported for my new desktop, I probably won't be able to install Outlook 2007 again with the same CD. Isn't Microsoft just great? Too bad I've been a PC user for years. Had I anticipated all the problems with Microsoft products, I would have started out with a Mac and been one of those happy Mac users who will never give up their brand.
