Software Reviews of Microsoft Streets and Trips 2008 with GPS [OLD VERSION]Customer Review: Program ok, GPS receiver not Summary: 3 StarsI owned S&T 2007 and enjoyed using it. I found some of the quirks of the maps a little funny/annoying, but it was still fairly accurate and usable for planning and for in car guidance. The 2008 version did have some map updates and some feature changes that were nice, but nothing major.
Cons:
- GPS receiver for 2008 didn't ever work. I used the one from my 2007 version. It may have been defective, I dunno
- Guidance does not speak the street names. It says when to turn and which way, but does not even attempt to pronounce street names.
- some instructions come way too late.
Customer Review: good shipping, poor product... Summary: 1 Starsgreat shipping.
But, GPS is not good... the voice instruction was confused, and direction by GPS was too late many times. my old navi on my car (2004) is much better.
Customer Review: Microsoft Maps Summary: 1 StarsI own MS Streets & Trips 2004, 2006 and 2008 with GPS. As far as I can tell, and I have looked closely, there is no difference between the 2006 and 2008 versions. I have found, however, a number of streets on the 2004 version which were dropped from the 2006 and 2008 versions. The GPS unit works just fine with the 2004 version. Thank you again, Microsoft.
Customer Review: Very Usefull Summary: 4 StarsI have S&T 2005, I think it's a good product with accurate information so 2008 S&T should be better. I tried the new 2008 GPS with 2005 S&T, it works fine, even indoors using the GPS not the wifi locator! which is a surprise!
Customer Review: Not Bad Summary: 4 StarsI just returned from a 6000 mile trip using the S/T 2008. I too had a little trouble with the activation as I was not near WiFi most of the time but once I got a good connections it worked.
In general it worked well. I did laugh when a huge lake in BC did not show up on one side of the road I was traveling beside. It is hard to read a lot of the small type in the car. Looking for the different colors of the minuscule blocks to see which was a restaurant and which was a bank was a problem. GPS reception can be spotty even when it appears it should be ok. On one or two occasions it did confuse left and right but the map was there to confirm.
All in all though it bailed me several times when I had know idea where I was in rural BC. It also got me through Vancouver and Seattle with no hassles. I also love being able to save my trip plans and reuse them again.
