Software Reviews of Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Upgrade [OLD VERSION]

Customer Review: One Star! I'm being way too nice!
Summary: 1 Stars

The most stable Windows yet! Once you install your first application, it's all down-hill from there.

Customer Review: most stable of them all
Summary: 5 Stars

i dont understand why most of the people that rated this OS with one star experienced as many difficulty as they did. i have it installed on a system thats older than the 2k by two years. and it runs like a rock. it doesnt crash, it integrates with the hardware perfectly, and is uptodate. since ive installed it i havent had any problem with any of my software or anything. its incredibly stable, if a program crashes, it handles it very well and ends it like its supose to. then you can even run it again and there...it works fine. i think most of the problems people face is when they are using proprietary computers like Compaq, dell HP and all others. i find it that those kind of computers have certain features that might prove difficult for the average user that only needs to run the computer flawlessly. if you buy a third party computer, most of the time, it doesnt have as many problems as the dell and other companys' computers. mainly its because they use customer support to make profts becuase thats what proprietary sellers do. where as you can buy a computer cheap that is more stable. over all this is the most stable computer microsoft has ever made. its even better than XP in that you dont have to go through the hasle of registering the OS. i fully recomend this OS to anyoen who knows how computers work, and understand how to fix typical problems that computer experience. most users expect computers to run flawlessly, but in the real world is that they dont. any OS you can install is great when it runs fine,it is when it doesnt that most people get frustrated and start to hate perfectly good OSs like this one. you dont have to be a Wiz at computers but you gotta know enough to realize that computers dont think by themselves, they run according to how they are being used.

Customer Review: Microsoft finally comes up with an adequate product...
Summary: 2 Stars

Windows 2000 is a good choice overall. I'm not going to go into details, some of the other much-less computer savvy reviewers (which is all but one or two) have already spewed their deal of buzzwords about the fearures at you. And I'll agree this is not as bad as XP or every other MS product for that matter, that doesn't mean it's good. It is still bloated, takes up far too much HD space, uses .exe executable compression schemes (which [stink]), and provide bad support in general. It's adequate I suppose for some. But i'll stick to open-source thank you ...

Customer Review: Windows 2000 Review
Summary: 5 Stars

Windows 2000 Pro is a more stable operationg system for those who have been using Windows 95/98/98se/me, easy to setup and even runs most newer games. The games that I have tested are as follows: Metal of Honor, Star Wars Jedi Knight II, Novalogic Commanchi4, Novalogic Delta Force Land Warrior, Star Trek Bridge Commander, ONI by bungie, Microsoft Gunship and others.

Using Windows 2000 for business will work flawlessly for internet, USB, File transfers, Compatability between software and hardware and all Microsoft Office Products (Office 2000).

My feelings are that Windows 2000 is better than Windows XP (Which I noticed a slowdown when using XP) in speed and accessability.

This is far the most stable and compatable operating system around with compatability with most newer hardware (Gforce4 Video Cards) and sound cards (Sound Blaster Audigy) and others. If you need to upgrade from 95/98/me there is no problem, but going from XP, you may have to format your drive and put 98/2000 on next depending on upgrade/full version of 2000.

Overall I give Windows 2000 Professional a Five Star Review.

Customer Review: Best OS Microsoft ever conjured up
Summary: 5 Stars

As it often happens with Microsoft, Windows 2000 is another mystery. It was released after one disaster (Windows ME) and before another one (XP).
True, it's not as multimedia-friendly as XP. But 2000 is true to its goal - successor to Windows NT. It's stable as no other Windows OS, much more multimedia-friendly than NT ever was and doesn't require devices made yesterday - it flawlessly supports all devices I currently have (and some of them date from 1992).
From a developer's point of view, 2000 is robust, stable and doesn't waste CPU cycles on stupid things, like soccermomish GUI (*cough* XP! *cough*). I would even go so far as to say that it runs faster on older systems than Windows NT 4 itself (the pinnacle of all things minimum).

I often toyed with the idea of switching to Linux, but Linux GUIs are still either a) too crash-prone or b) unpolished and repugnant to the eye (all this if you look past software availability limitations). Windows 2000 offers the stability of a Unix command-prompt with a pleasing GUI - a combination that will probably not be achieved any time soon.
