Software Reviews of Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Upgrade

Customer Review: Win 7 Pro Ugrade
Summary: 4 Stars

I like the software, the one thing I did not realize was the upgrade was from Vista only.

Customer Review: Bugs in applications running in 7
Summary: 3 Stars

I was an early purchaser of Windows 7 Professional (upgrade). I Replaced XP.

While I like 7, I am running into bugs in the software I am running in 7. Most notably, my Acrobat fails to load much of the time if I click to open a file, and my Photoshops (both CS4 and CS3) hang up. I have re-enstalled both multiple times. These problems occur daily, and since I use Photoshop and acrobat continuously, this is a serious problem for me. I am going to have to uninstall 7 and replace it with the old XP.

I have Vista on a different computer and hate it for all of the power it consumes. I will move this 7 to that computer

I have XP on yet another computer that specializes in multimedia software (Priemier, DreamWeaver, etc), and I wouldn't consider upgrading, given the problems I am having with Photoshop.

All things considered, I would upgrade Vista (the world's worst existing OS) with 7, but not XP (which is still very good).

AFTER 6 WEEKS

Problems persist. Illustrator CS4 hangs up, Photoshop CS4 hangs up, IE works intermittently but often hangs up. E.g., IE or Firefox will be loading but will stop. If you click on them, the pages will fade to pale colors -- open Task manager and it will say "Not Responding." Illustrator hangs on opening. PhotoShop is liable to hang at any time. The OS seems stable, but professional software seems unstable in the OS.

The speed increase and ease of use over Windows Vista is amazing on my laptop. I am totally impressed and will upgrading my desktop to Windows 7 Ultimate very soon.

Customer Review: A Stable Windows...Imagine that...
Summary: 4 Stars

I've been using the beta since I got my new laptop in July and decided that having to use Vista at work was bad enough. It's not without its issues, but it is definitely a step in the right direction for Microsoft. It's definitely faster than Vista. Not quite as fast as XP (at least if Oblivion in Ultra mode is any indication), but the extra functionality is well worth the price of admission. Would highly recommend that anybody using Vista upgrade ASAP.

Customer Review: 7 does many of the things you always thought a computer should do...
Summary: 5 Stars

I like the new task bar/desktop functionality and the quick-search in the start menu.
The backup tool is excellent, as well as many other built in performance/maintenance tools.

More intuitive tools and interface - starts and shuts down quickly - haven't had any automatic restarts from Windows updates!

I'm especially happy because I successfully installed it on a two and a half year old machine (running Windows XP pro SP3) - Intel DQ965GF motherboard (Intel says it doesn't support Win7 on that motherboard but it works anyway, and I received an update that fixes the only incompatible feature on the MB that I didn't need anyway (Active Management Technology).
