Customer Review: Vista is not broken
Summary: 5 Stars

I have Vista Ultimate on my Dell E521 and have for about a year now,I recently purchased a new HP DV9910US laptop that came with Vista Home Premium,I just ordered the upgrade pack to Ultimate.Hopefully this says something for Vista. As an update to this review I had Vista Ultimate installed on my HP laptop but alas the graphics onboard will not run dream, therefore I ended up calling Microsoft and getting the 64bit DVD and installing on my HP Pavillion it has a much better graphics card,it runs just great on this machine.just a short note on this upgrade make sure your PC will at least have a decent graphics card.It did install on my Pavillion without a hitch once I received the DVD.It took about an hour and left my files and programs intact.

Customer Review: ATTENTION! will delete all your files
Summary: 2 Stars

There are 2 ways to install this OS: clean install and upgrade.
The upgrade should leave your files, settings and programs intact.
The truth is that it does leave the software but it will delete any file you have stored in the pc. My documents folder will be empty at the end of the process, as well as your outlook pst file, your desktop, your music and so on...

There is not really a choice, it's almost a clean install anyway.
I had a backup of my files but I did not backup the settings of several programs.
Shame on Microsoft

installation problems on the side, after few weeks of using vista I have to say I am quite happy and I would not go back to xp

Customer Review: if you are running 64b Vista?
Summary: 5 Stars

I ran into a catch-22 problem. This edition is a 32-bit version and I took the crazy chance to order my HP laptop with a 64-bit XP Home Premium. The software referred me to a web site to order a new distribution in 64-bit OR change media from DVD to CD-ROM. However, the web site is broken so I ended up having to call support. Microsoft plugged in the product ID from the Anytime Ultimate upgrade and told me they would be shipping new media with a whole new product ID. So, a little pain but a little good - I now have either a 32-bit version or 64-bit version!

Customer Review: Wonderful Upgrade
Summary: 5 Stars

Vista Home comes with many laptops but the increased functionality offered through Vista Ultimate is worth the upgrade for my needs due to increased networking capability.

Customer Review: Make Sure You Know What Your Getting- Not for 64-Bit
Summary: 2 Stars

This product will not upgrade 64-bit Vista installations (OEM or retail). This should be noted in the product's title or product description. It is really a Microsoft situation, not the retailer - but a note or warning would be nice. If you have a 64-bit Vista system to upgrade you can buy this product, open it (now you've bought it) and read a little flyer that directs you to a MS web site to order 64-bit media. The web site does not work! Digging through Microsoft's main web site to find a MS customer service contact number is also a bit of a chore as is finding a Rep who knows the 64-bit upgrade issue. Once you make contact Microsoft will, with faxed proof-of purchase of your upgrade, send you the Vista Ultimate media (both a 64-bit and 32-bit disk) & one activation code. This is not an upgrade disk - its for clean installs only, so be prepared to reload your Apps. Additional Cost: A) Free, if you have a retail copy of 64-bit Vista Home Premium (and can prove it) and you then bought the Vista Ultimate Upgrade; or B) about $30 additional if you have an OEM districbution of 64-bit Vista Home Premium. One small advantage with the media deliverd is that it is transferrrable to another machine, if you wish to do so in the future.
