Software Reviews of Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit English 1pkCustomer Review: Don't believe the Vista Hate! Get 64 bit Vista Home Premium! Summary: 4 StarsVista x64 is a necessity if you want to use more than 3.5GB (or so) of RAM (2GB per application). It's rock solid and has better driver support now (1-1/2yrs after introduction) than when I bought it, but even then, it ran flawlessly on my MacBook Pro and Mac Pro. My Mac Pro has 6GB of RAM, and Vista x64 sees all of it. This is a plus for people who use Photoshop and other high-intensity applications. To tell the truth, I'm not really sure why Microsoft didn't make Vista 64-bit only, since all processors in modern computers are 64-bit. Vista 32 alone takes up over half the available max RAM, and doesn't leave much for applications.
FYI: If you want the best available (non-gaming), fastest Vista computer, get a Macintosh! There have been several tests and comparisons that show that regular PCs, with their outdated BIOS, serial ports, and parallel ports (and sometimes even floppy disks!), can't keep up with a modern, EFI-based computer like all current macs. And Vista was made with EFI (not BIOS) in mind. This, plus the expandability of the Mac Pro to the currently available 32GB of RAM, make it a no-brainer, unless you're strapped for cash. If you want, you can even reformat the Mac to run Windows-only, though why you'd want to, I have no idea...
Summary: If you MUST use Windows, don't believe the haters! Get Vista x64, and get the Home Premium version and save some cash over Vista Ultimate x64. XP is not nearly as secure, and WinXP x64 still has driver issues. Drop 6 to 10GB RAM from Crucial.com into a Mac Pro, and you'll have the best Windows computer available.
Customer Review: 64 bit vista Summary: 5 StarsVista is now the Windows standard, and rightly so. It comes with many features to let the user interact more comfortably and personally than with previous versions of Windows. Service pack one is out now and many of the errors that ruined earlier versions have been corrected. The only one "problem" I have come across is that the 64 bit version is a complete system hog. I have to 2GB of RAM and idle Vista alone uses 38% of that. In addition, there are a few programs out there that do not work with 64 bit operating systems, but the vast majority however have converted their products to be 64 bit compatible. Not really a problem but worth mentioning. Overall a great product.
Customer Review: The DVD i have to return it due to scrach that dont let it install Summary: 1 StarsThe DVD i have to return it due to scrach that dont let it install
Customer Review: Vista the DOG Summary: 2 StarsI was quite disappointed with this product as it is poorly supported by device manufacturers.
Old hardware you might as well throw away if you purchase this.
The Hardware to support this is just now getting to the market with drivers being released only now.
Using this for an HTPC is an odd combo as the desktop is not very nice on a tv but Media center is outstanding on a tv. It makes you wonder if the desktop is going away eventually.
If you lie DIY projects this is a big one. have fun
Customer Review: great Summary: 4 Starsgood os, for all people that thinks 64-bit is bad, think again and use some proper software with 64-bit support, and check devices if they have 64-bit drivers, before buying 64-bit windows, all of the programs i use works fine in this vesion, openoffice, paint.net, picasa, foxit reader, firefox, hwmonitor, fraps, trillian, winamp, winrar, steam, and the excellent antivirus NOD32 & Smart Security works without any problems,
my canon IP5200R works fine with 64-bit, it has 64-bit drivers
before you buy this version CHECK for drivers for you printer and scanner if they dont have drivers get 32-bit but if they have drivers get this version
you can also use 3Gb or more RAM in this version, with 32-bit windows you only get 3GB max and not including graphics card
the "Start Search" in startmenu is addicting!
its the most useful serch, as in you can search startmenu or just type in a Command Prompt command and you open up programs, like perfmon, msconfig and Services
