Software Reviews of Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate FULL VERSION [DVD] [OLD VERSION]Customer Review: Your worst nightmare Summary: 1 StarsI have been using Vista on a laptop at work for approximately 8 months and I have almost completed transferring data from an XP home computer to a new Vista computer. I consider myself an intermediate computer user. I am not an IT guy but I can usually solve most problems that confront the average user. If you want to experience the most frustrating computer experience imaginable, then buy Vista. You will not be disappointed. I gave it 1 star because I did not have the option of giving it no stars. The "Easy Transfer" feature is anything but easy - and good luck trying to find your files when the transfer is completed. The directories in Vista are different from the directories in XP and it is very difficult to find the transferred files on your Vista machine and verify that the transfer was successful. Once you do start trying to find your files you will begin receiving messages that you do not have "rights" to open certain folders (a strange message when it is your computer). This is a security feature but there is a way to disable it. The bells and whistles on Vista will slow down your machine so make sure you have plenty of memory. Also, you will probably have to download patches to get some or all of your old hardware and software to work on Vista. Bottom line: do not upgrade from XP unless you absolutely have to, but if you must, consider buying a Mac, which is what I intend to buy next. I realize this will be starting over with a whole new system, but I have had it with Windows.
Customer Review: Windows Vista Ultimate-Great for Microsoft-Lousy OS for consumers. Summary: 1 StarsI have been using Windows Vista since Beta 2 preview and while there are some things that I like about the OS; I have to say the minor annoyances have outwheighed the benefits. UAC is designed to protect users but it only slows things down. It defeats the purpose to shut it off but did it have to be so obtrusive.
I think that most that have purchase the "Ultimate" version feel ripped off when it comes to the Ultimate Extras. In Microsoft's description we were going to get: "Cutting Edge Programs: Enjoy Microsoft programs that are available only through Windows Ultimate Extras. Windows update notifies you when downloads become available."
"Innovative Services: Benefit from unique services that can help you tailor your computing experience to your digital lifestyle."
"Unique Publications: Download premium content that focuses on your Digital lifestyle. Discover techniques & strategies that help you get the most out of Windows Vista Ultimate."
I really don't think that any of this marketing pablum has been realized at all. I am sorry I bought into this garbage. I really don't think that Hold Em Poker(1 game), 35 Language Packs, Bit Locker and EFS enhancements, and lastly DreamScene. Are they worth it? A resounding NO.
I am now back to Windows XP Pro with a dual boot to Windows Ultimate. I hope that with the final release of Vista SP 1 will clear up the problems that I have experienced.
Stay with Windows XP as long as you can... Service Pack 3 is in release candidate.
Customer Review: Vista Summary: 4 StarsUncertain about Vista. I bought a Mac and had microsoft programs that only run on microsoft and not the mac. With parallels, Vista seems to be working ok. I use it sparingly. Sooooo happy that I made the change to Mac and only have to use Vista periodically.
Customer Review: The best thing about Vista is it makes you want to buy a Mac. Summary: 1 StarsThe best thing about using Vista is it makes you want to run out and buy a make. Vista tried turning a windows machine into a mac but it did it very badly. Os x is the best OS out there and now the new intel macs can even run XP. So you really cant lose. Everyone should just switch to mac and if they need to use windows just boot up Xp on your macs. Its that simple.
Customer Review: Bill need a recall on this one. Wish I could go back to XP Summary: 1 StarsAside from some pleasant pictures, this is a BAD improvement over something that worked well. Worse yet is to get the Bundle with the new Word and Excel, which are terrible. Fortunately, I have another computer with the older versions on it. So, if I have a sophisticated Word document, I have some recourse.
