Software Reviews of Windows Vista Ultimate with SP1 [OLD VERSION]Customer Review: It Works Summary: 4 StarsHeard a lot of negitive things about Vista. I built a new computer and installed Vista Ultimate. I like it better than XP.
Customer Review: Pure Crap - Far More Sluggish Than Win XP or Mac OS 10.5 Summary: 2 StarsHave been running this on a fast machine since Feb 2007 and it is pure crap. The UAC feature really makes the machine sluggish when trying to load new software. On some occasions it takes UAC as long as 4 minutes to come up with a Window for you to allow an install. The hard disk grinds constantly. The boot up takes 4-5 times as long as Mac OS 10.5.8. Just an absolute disgrace.
Customer Review: Can't wait for Windows 7 Summary: 1 StarsI use WIndows VIsta on a powerful, modern machine. My specs are as follows:
-2.83 Ghz Intel COre 2 Quad CPU
-4GB unbuffered DDR3 1333 MHz RAM
-Intel EXtreme series dx28bt Mobo
-896MB GTX 275 Graphics Card
Yet even with all that it still finds a way to run sluggish. It was not always this way. When I first started my computer it was fine. I thought; who would complain about this! It's better than XP! I soon found that after a month or so it will slow down tremendously. I'm waiting for Windows 7 Professsional so that I can ditch this bloated OS.
Customer Review: The best MS operating system to date. Summary: 5 StarsVista is indeed a revolutionary OS. The user interface was a MAJOR improvement over XP. The Game Explorer is a very nice addition for gamers. And best of all, it doesn't crash! It's just stable.
I have used Vista Business since its release in January 2007 and it has been absolutely rock solid. It's fast (faster than XP even on systems with more than 4Gbs of RAM), much more secure than XP, compatible with older software, sexy Aero effects, and boasts loads of new features and improvements. And I already mentioned the much improved interface.
Yes, it does have a few bad things. UAC is one of them, but that can be easily turned off. Slow file transfer over the network was indeed a problem early on, but was fixed even before SP1 came out. And DRM is still just as bad as in XP.
Windows 7 is coming out in a few months, but it's not out now, so Vista still holds the crown as the best Windows version out there. Actually, Windows 7 is nothing but Vista SE with a new name. I ran the Windows 7 release candidate full time for a month, and realized that I had been running "Windows 7" since January 2007. Heh. I will still upgrade to Win7 though, if I find it for cheap (the current upgrade prices are NOT worth it if you already own Vista).
Overall, this OS has served me well over these past three years, and just felt compelled to write a positive review. Good job Microsoft! :)
Customer Review: Vista is great, but Windows 7 is better! Summary: 4 StarsThose who have written about their problems with installing Windows Vista (even if it was an OEM) apparently don't know anything about the installation process.
I have built numerous computer systems without any problems when installing Windows Vista.
If you are upgrading, I will suggest that you back up your data first, reformat your hard drive, and begin with your upgrade version. If you have your prior operation system disks, you will need to insert it when the installation step asks for it. I prefer a clean installation without the upgrade version of Windows Vista. The reason is that it is more simple and faster to install. Customers who claimed that they have spent nearly 6 hours upgrading or installing may not have realized that during the boot process, you don't want to press any keys while the OS is installing.
Currently, I have several computers running Windows Vista Ultimate that I built. The installation process is very simple if you know what you are doing, for example, resetting your BIOS so that the CD ROM drive is your main boot.
There is no need to enter a password during the installation process, but rather your username will suffice for now. Additionally, no real experience system builder will immediately register their OS or enter the product key number. The reason is that by not entering the product key number gives the system builder 30 days to register the product. This is beneficial when you will be adding additional components.
Windows 7 promises to be better than Windows Vista which will be available sometime in October.
